What could possible go wrong? A live streaming "portal" from Madison Square Park in New York City to Dublin, allowing those of us on both sides of the Atlantic to see each other, hear each other, communicate with each other. Sounds good, right? Well, it took no time for the whole thing to go completely off the rails, with New Yorkers and Dubliners flashing body parts and imagery that the organizors had not anticipated. (Really? We mean, it's not like New Yorkers or Dubliners are know for being mischievous, or anything like that.) For several days it was shut down. Now it's back up, with limited hours and blurring mechanisms to keep everyone's worst impulses at least somewhat at bay, as reported in The Daily News. Good luck with that! #nyc #dublin #porn #portal #ireland #manhattan #video

Dr. Clarence B. Jones is a legend, a lion of the Civil Rights movement, and chairman of Spill the Honey, which seeks to bring together Blacks and Jews through the groups’ shared history of persecution. He was a friend, advisor and speech writer for the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. And now he’s a Presidential Medal of Freedom winner. Nicholas & Lence Communications is proud to work with him and the whole team at Sprill the Honey. #mlk #blacks #jews #race #biden https://lnkd.in/eDaNe9b6

Marriage proposals and a 15-cent subway fare. It was a different era. And once upon a time, from 1941 to 1976, there was a Miss Subway every two months. Their smiling faces on subway posters made them celebrities, and they carried it with them for the rest of their lives. Now 82, Ellen Hart was a senior at Jamaica High School in Queens, and had just won best-looking in her class, when she applied. “My whole neighborhood encouraged me to send in my picture,” she said. Now she owns Ellen's Stardust Diner in Manhattan, and on Thursday, May 2, she and several of her fellow contest winners will gather to remember those days. It's all here in today's New York Post. Nicholas & Lence Communications is proud to work with Ellen and her singing team. #nyc #misssubways #subways #broadway

History comes in cycles. Sometime we can get a handle on the near-future by studying the past. With tensions high on so many college campuses these days, looking at the history of student protests can shed some light on where we might be headed. Interesting story in USA Today. #campus #gaza #college #students #protests #police

Mayor Adams has said he wants Randy Mastro as the city's Corporation Counsel, and some member of the City Council have objected, citing Mastro's days as Rudy Giuliani's deputy. But few are acknowledging, or even seem to realize, his stellar history defending progressive causes and the fact that he's a lifelong Democrat. One person who knows Mastro well is former Governor David Paterson, who penned this forceful essay in City & State. Read it, and give it some thought. #mastro #nyc #nycgovernment #newyorkstate #nys #paterson

“The fierceness, the dedication of the Jewish people can be translated in simple, practical terms. There would not have been a Civil Rights Act of 1964 nor a Voting Rights Act of 1965, none of that would have happened but for the alliance and support of the Jewish community. So I’m not going to sit by.” Clarence B. Jones, advisor and speechwriter for Rev. Mr. Martin Luther King Jr., is perhaps the last lion of the Civil Rights movement. And today he's quoted by Ken Belson in The New York Times, in a story profiling Robert Kraft, owner of the New England Patriots who has worked with Dr. Jones bringing together Blacks and Jews to fight racism and anti-semitism. Dr. Jones' quote says it all. These two groups have stood side-by-side for decades. The homeless and housing problem in New York City feels more and more intractable, and it's coming to a head over plans to turn the old Calhoun School in Manhattan into a shelter for women. It's all explained in Patch.com. The issue is becoming more and more fraught, especially with the Supreme Court on Monday hearing arguments in the case of Grant's Pass, Oregon, which has been accussed of violating the rights of its homeless population by fining them for living on public land. #homeless #nyc #manhattan https://lnkd.in/ep3873yY

The people don't like it -- congestion pricing, that is. The highly respected Siena College statewide poll found that 75-percent of state residents don't want to pay $15 ($3 at night) to enter Manhattan, as Carl Campanile reports exclusively in The New York Post. Yes, we're not surprised folks don't want to spend more money on anything, but still -- there are serious problems with the plan as it now stands, as we've addressed previously. So let this poll be another reason for the powers-that-be to put the brakes on. Please! #nyc #traffic #nypost #siena

At 9 a.m. on Wednesday, April 17, Janno Lieber, the chairman and CEO of the MTA, will speak at the Crain's Power Breakfast at the New York Athletic Club on Central Park South in Manhattan. And he'll answer questions. And surely, at least one of them will be about the looming plan to institute congrestion pricing below 60th Street in Manhattan. Here, Cristyne Nicholas, chair of the Broadway Association, former CEO of NYC Tourism & Conventions and CEO of Nicholas & Lence Communications, raises some alarm bells, and posits some solutions, in the pages of the Daily News. Food for thought. Let's not speed into this brave new world without thinking it through. What about the overnight workers who, with fewer mass transit options, will be burdened by these new fees? #crains #congestionpricing #transit #nyc #manhattan
